Manu Parrots Lick 3D/2N

Day 1: Cusco Andes – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata Lodge
Leaving Cusco early, we pass through the pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca and Paucartambo. We stop at Acjanacu (3,530m) for an overview of the Amazon Basin before descending into the lush Cloud Forest. Along the way, we look for endemic flora and fauna such as butterflies, orchids, monkeys, toucans, and Peru’s national bird, “the Cock of the Rock.” We overnight at our comfortable lodge.
Day 2: Pilcopata Village – Rainforest Atalaya Port – Lodge
A short ride takes us to Atalaya (500m), where we board our motorized canoe for a 40-minute trip downstream on the Alto Madre de Dios River to our lodge. We spend the day exploring the surrounding trails, a small oxbow lake, and a swamp. Here we look for the prehistoric Hoatzin bird, caimans, capybaras, squirrel monkeys, and different species of birds. After dinner, we enjoy an exciting night walk.
Day 3: Parrots Lick – Return to Cusco
Very early at 5:00 a.m., we travel 20 minutes down the river by boat to observe the parrots clay lick, where different species of parrots and parakeets gather to eat minerals. After breakfast, we start our journey back to Cusco. One final walk concludes our activities in the cloud forest before arriving in Cusco around 5:00 p.m.

Day 1: Cusco Andes – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata Lodge
Leaving Cusco early, we will pass through the preinca Tombs of Ninamarca, the colonial town of Paucartambo known as the region’s folklore center. The next stop is Acjanacu (3,530m/11,870ft) which is the entrance to the Manu Biosphere, for an overview of the amazon Basin. After that, we’ll descend through different ecological floors such as the puna, the elfin forest, down into the lush Cloud Forest, along the way we may see endemic flora and fauna such as, butterflies, giant tree ferns and orchids, monkeys, birds like, toucans, tanagers, etc. The Cloud Forest is home of Peru’s National bird which is “the Cock of the Rock” (Rupicola peruviana, we visit its lek) and the spectacled bear (tremarctus ornatus) -the only bear found in South America. We overnight at our comfortable and typical Lodge.
Day 2: Pilcopata Village – Rainforest Atalaya Port – Lodge
45 Min. ride to Atalaya (500m rainforest) where we will board our motorized canoe that will take us to our lodge (40min. down stream) situated on the banks of the mighty Alto Madre de Dios River. Here we will spend the day exploring the surrounding area and the very interesting trails that will show us an amazing ecosystem. In a little oxbow lake and a mysterious swamp we have the opportunity to see the «prehistoric» Hoatzin, some Caimans, Capybaras, Squirrel monkeys, and different species of birds. After dinner, we will hear sounds of the Amazonian night like the Night Monkey(Aotus trivirgatus), the Kalinowski Rat, frogs, Great Potoos and the Pigmy Owl among many others inhabitants of the night during a night walk.
Day 3: Parrots Lick & Jungle Trails
Very early 5 a.m. we will spend 20 minutes traveling down the river by boat to observe the parrots clay lick, where different species of Parrots and parakeets will give a colorful show and an impressive uproar; After breakfast we will spend the morning, hiking around the lodge 3 -4 hours in the morning exploring the interesting trails; where we will have some more opportunity to find flora and fauna, after lunch, in the afternoon we return to the first lodge.
Day 4: Lodge – Return to Cusco
After breakfast we will start the way back to Cusco, one more walk will finish our activities in the cloud forest, arriving to Cusco at 4 – 5pm in the afternoon.

Upon arriving, we spend the afternoon exploring the trails, with the possibility of a night walk to spot mammals and nocturnal birds.
Day 3: Lodge – Hotsprings – Soga Lodge
Very early, we start a 2.5-hour walk to explore the trails around the lodge, looking for groups of peccaries and red howler monkeys. After returning for breakfast, we go on another 2-hour walk. Then, we start making our way back, stopping after 40 minutes to enjoy the natural hot springs and a delicious lunch. We continue for 2.5 hours to the next lodge, from where we visit a small lake looking for caimans, capybaras, monkeys, frogs, and night birds before dinner.
Day 4: Soga Lodge – Amazon Manu Lodge
Very early, we travel 10 minutes down the river by boat to observe a parrots clay lick (collpa). This rich deposit of natural minerals attracts different species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws, creating a colorful and noisy show. After breakfast, we start a longer hike exploring the surrounding areas. After lunch, we take the boat 1 hour upriver to Atalaya port, where our van awaits to bring us back to the first lodge for a well-deserved rest.
Day 5: Lodge – Return to Cusco
After breakfast, we will start our journey back to Cusco. One final walk will conclude our activities in the majestic cloud forest, arriving in Cusco around 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon.

Day 1: Cusco Andes – Cloud Forest – Pilcopata Lodge
Leaving Cusco early, we pass through the pre-Inca tombs of Ninamarca and Paucartambo. We descend from the Andes down into the lush Cloud Forest, searching for endemic flora and fauna like orchids, monkeys, and the famous “Cock of the Rock” bird. We overnight at our comfortable lodge.
Day 2: Pilcopata Lodge – Boca Manu Town, Lodge
After a 45-minute ride to Atalaya, we board our canoe that will take us on a 6-hour journey to our lodge in Boca Manu (280m altitude). During the trip, we can see a variety of birds, caimans, and tapirs on the riversides. In the afternoon, we hike through interesting trails looking for mammals and insects. A night walk allows us to hear the Amazonian night sounds, looking for the Night Monkey, frogs, and the Pygmy Owl.
Day 3: Boca Manu – Private Reserve Blanquillo or MWC
We travel by boat for 3 hours downstream to the Private Reserve of Blanquillo. The afternoon is dedicated to exploring an oxbow lake and the surrounding areas. With the help of a catamaran, we quietly visit the lake to observe the huge diversity, such as black caimans, white caimans, giant otters, and lakeside birds. On our return, we have the opportunity for a night walk to spot nocturnal birds.
Day 4: Macaw Clay Lick – Lodge
Before breakfast, we go down the river to a floating camouflaged platform positioned 90m from the Macaw Clay Lick. Here we observe different species of parrots and large macaws gathering to eat the natural minerals—a colorful and unforgettable show. Afterwards, we continue up the Madre de Dios river to our campsite on the riverside.
Day 5: Lodge – Pilcopata Town, Lodge
Our boat takes us back upriver to Atalaya port, where our bus will be waiting for us. We will then travel to our comfortable, welcoming lodge in Pilcopata where we will spend our last night in the jungle.
Day 6: Pilcopata – Return to Cusco
After breakfast, we will begin the scenic drive back up the Andes to Cusco. One final walk will finish our activities in the cloud forest, arriving back in Cusco around 5:00 p.m.

Day 1: Cusco Andes – Cloud Forest – Amazon Lodge
Leaving Cusco early, we pass through Ninamarca and Paucartambo, descending from the Andes into the lush Cloud Forest. We look for endemic flora and fauna, including butterflies, orchids, monkeys, and the “Cock of the Rock.” We spend our first night at our comfortable lodge.
Day 2: Amazon Lodge – Atalaya Port – Lodge
We ride to Atalaya port and board our motorized canoe for a 5-hour journey downstream on the Alto Madre de Dios River. We spend the afternoon exploring the surrounding trails, an oxbow lake, and a swamp to see Hoatzin birds, caimans, and capybaras. After dinner, we take a night walk to hear the sounds of the Amazonian night.
Day 3: Lodge – Up the Manu River – Matsiguenka Lodge
Very early (5:00 a.m.), we start a 6-hour boat ride up the Manu River. We have a good chance to see a parrots lick and look for black caimans, capybaras, turtles, birds, monkeys, and the elusive jaguar! Late in the afternoon, we have a great opportunity for a night walk in the middle of the Amazon.
Days 4 – 5: Matsiguenka Lodge – Ride down the Manu River – Lodge
On Day 4, we take longer walks and visit a remote oxbow lake using a catamaran, looking for Giant Otters and pristine forest wildlife. We also offer an optional nocturnal walk. Day 5 is flexible: we can explore the forest again, visit a second oxbow lake, and use a 20-meter observation tower before navigating downstream on the Manu River, always keeping an eye out for jaguars!
Days 6 – 7: Lodge – Up the Madre de Dios River – Lodge
Early on Day 6, we continue our boat ride up the Madre de Dios River. We have the chance to visit a local native community to understand their culture and importance to the Amazon. Late in the afternoon, we can relax in natural hot springs. On Day 7, we continue our boat journey, taking time for a few more trail walks and a small oxbow lake, before arriving at the first lodge for our final night.
Day 8: Amazon Lodge – Return to Cusco
After breakfast, we will start the way back to Cusco. One final walk will conclude our activities in the magical cloud forest, arriving back in Cusco around 5:00 p.m.
